Dr. Seuss’ The
Cat in the Hat (7):

Mom (Kelly
Preston) is a hard-working real estate agent, who lives in a pastel
world with two children, trouble making son, Conrad (Spenser Breslin),
and control freak daughter, Sally (Dakota Fanning), and a conniving boy
friend, Quinn (Alec Baldwin), who secretly hates Conrad and wants him
banished to a military school. She leaves the house and instructs them
that nobody is to enter the immaculate living room because she’s
having a party that night for her boss who has a clean fetish. Conrad
and Sally have anything but a loving relationship as each disrespects
the other.
When she leaves,
however, a huge cat (Mike Myers) wearing a large hat appears with
cataclysmic results. Predictably, the house is destroyed. Quinn, who is
allergic to cats, uses the disaster to try to convince Mom to banish
Conrad. Conrad and Sally move closer together as they try to rectify the
disaster Cat has accomplished.
I thought I was
going to hate this movie but came out smiling and laughing with a good
feeling. It’s a funny, entertaining, one hour 22 minute fantasy with a
good moral that adults can enjoy as much as children.
